Minor in Computer and Information Science
Students interested in applying computing principles and practices in another discipline (in which they may be completing a major degree program) should consider completing the Computer & Information Science (CIS) Minor program. Some courses may overlap with a student's current major. However, if you plan on overlapping then you should consult with the CSE advising office to confirm you do not need to take any extra classes
Math 1151 (or equivalent) and CSE 1223 or 1222 are required before declaring the CIS Minor.
Listed below you will find the curriculum requirements for the CIS minor. Notice the requirements are slightly different based on your first semester of enrollment at Ohio State.
- CIS Minor Program for students first enrolled at Ohio State SP16 and later (document updated 03/23/22)
- CIS Minor Program for students first enrolled at Ohio State AU15 or earlier.
**Please note that students in the following degree programs are not permitted to declare a CIS minor.**
Bachelor of Science in Data Analytics
Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering (Computer Engineering track)
Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics (Computer Science specialization)
If you decide to add the CIS minor to your plan, please e-mail the CSE Advising Office. In your e-mail, include you want to declare the CIS minor. This inbox is checked by all advisors in the office and responses generally take 2 business days. Responses may take longer during busy periods of the semester.
IMPORTANT SCHEDULING NOTE: If you are a CIS minor trying to schedule a minor course, please make sure you've done the following:
- Try to enroll in the course as normal.
- Try to waitlist the course by checking the "waitlist if course is full" box (even if the course isn't full).
- E-mail us with the semester, course number(s), class number(s) and days/times that you are trying to add.
